If you’re dealing with skin pigmentation from sun damage, aging, rosacea, or even freckles, we almost always recommend considering IPL laser treatment. IPL (intense pulsed light) is incredibly effective against pigmentation in the skin, helping to reverse brown and red spots to restore a more even skin tone. Let’s take a look at how this treatment works and if it could be right for you.
How Does IPL Laser Treatment Work?
This laser-based treatment works by using specific wavelengths that target unwanted pigment in the skin. When the light energy is applied to the skin, the pigmented areas absorb the energy. This heats up the affected skin cells and essentially destroys them. During healing, these areas start to scab over and then slough off the skin. As a result, new, clear skin is revealed underneath. The major difference between IPL and other laser treatments is that IPL uses multiple wavelengths to treat a variety of pigments (usually in the brown or red palette).
Is It Painful?
During treatment, you might feel a pinching or snapping feeling which can be alleviated by the use of a pre-treatment numbing cream. In general, this procedure is well tolerated by most. If you have concerns, please feel free to discuss them with us during your consultation.
When Will I See Results?
Many people notice some initial results within a week of their treatment, but typically full results develop over a period of 3-4 weeks. For maximum results, we recommend 3 sessions spaced out over a few months.
IPL treatment is safe for most people, but it may not be the right choice for you. To help you decide if you might be a good candidate, schedule a consultation with us. We will discuss IPL in detail and go over risk factors, benefits, and your skin goals.
